Shea butter is a fat extracted from the nut of the African shea tree (Vitellaria paradoxa) and is widely used in cosmetics as a moisturizer, salve, or lotion. The raw shea butter is ivory in color, while more processed versions are white, although it is commonly dyed yellow with borututu root or palm oil.

The shea butter color can vary from an ivory white to a grayish yellow, which is completely normal as it is an all-natural product. Shea butter is used in many forms and within many products, such as soap making, lotions, salves, moisturizers, cosmetics, massage oils, hair conditioners and shampoos, lip gloss, and lip balms. Many customers use the raw shea butter to moisturize their skin before bed or after a hot shower.

To ensure the longevity of the shea butter, it is recommended to store it in an air-tight container away from direct sunlight, in a cool, dark place. The shelf life of shea butter is approximately 18-24 months.
